NYC Marathon: Lance Armstrong places 869th

Lance Armstrong finished the New York City Marathon today in 2 hours, 59 minutes, 36 seconds, just seconds shy of his goal of finishing in less than three hours. “I can tell you, 20 years of pro sports, endurance sports, from triathlons to cycling, all of the Tours — even the worst days on the Tours — nothing was as hard as that, and nothing left me feeling the way I feel now, in terms of just sheer fatigue and soreness,” Armstrong said.

  1. Good for Lance that he followed through with his goal even without the appropriate training. I'll bet, though, that he won't do another marathon without the proper training.

A lifetime ago I worked at the Boston Marathon. People that didn't respect the distance always came up short. If they returned another year, respecting the course and distance, they always did much better. With Lance's competitive nature, I'll bet he'll be back...and I bet he'll be serious about it and do much better (although 3 hours is NOTHING to sneeze at!).

  2. Three hours is a stunningly amazing time for a marathon, especially for somebody who didn't train all that much! I'm astounded.
