Cycling and Social Networking

Facebook.com has continued to grow from the very beginning. Starting as simply a way to connect with old friends and make new ones, it has gained popularity around the world through the use of groups, where people of similar interests can discuss whatever they want. Groups ranging from advocacy projects, government candidates, and even to Harry Potter all can have members from around the world. Cycling groups are starting to gain more and more members every day. Groups such as "The Tour de France Dominates My Month of July", which has 2,449 members, and "Cycling is a sport of gods", which has 1,606 members, all have active discussions.

Just by looking through the discussion in the "The Tour de France Dominates My Month of July" group, it is obviously the members find it important to discuss different aspects of the Tour. For example, these are the stats for some of the interaction on the discussion board:

Vino....What Do You Think? 98 posts by 42 people
Do you think Lance could win another Tour? 25 posts by 9 people
Tour is a joke now.
36 posts by 19 people
Favorite Cyclist and Why? 90 posts by 58 people

Looking through the close to 2,500 members of this group, you can see the global reach of cyclists. Members are from Norway, Holland, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, South Africa, France, Italy, and the United States.

With more races starting up and newer talent entering the peloton, the number of cycling groups on Facebook should expect to grow.
