Bill to prohibit babies on bikes

Washington State Senator Jim Honeyford introduced a bill to prohibit operation of a bicycle with an attached occupied baby carrier on a street. Read the legislation and comments here. I think this is absolutely ridiculous.

  1. seems vague and perhaps inconsistent if anything. first of all, what is a carrier? is that a trailer? one of those stupid rack seat things (which are incredibly dangerous and should be prohibited by law, IMHO -- this coming from a father)? a trail-a-bike? i think honolulu has something similar in particular parts of the city but they're concerned about crazy traffic not seeing a trailer and hitting it, thus endangering any possible trailer passengers AND the cyclist themselves. doesn't it seem like the only thing this bill cares about is the babies?

  2. Uh okay so it seems like he wants to force cyclists carrying babies to ride on the sidewalk if the municipality allows sidewalk riding. Does he realize the baby is more likely to get injured that way? Hmm
