Nick's post about the The Intergalactic Single Speed World Championships ("...deeper, danker, darker, more uncut and definitely, absolutely colder than any other Intergalactic Single Speed Championship...") reminded me of this historical information about rocket powered bicycles. You'll see in the photos that these are all single speeds, and that single speed is really really fast -- up to 55 mph on two wheels way back in the 1920s.
That article, in turn, reminded me of a more modern (and safer) rocket powered bike, built by a real live rocket scientist for his 13-year-old daughter.
