It's a guy on a bike, what do I do?

I love Warren's sense of humor.

Does anybody read Cyclelicious from Atlanta? I hear you all have some serious gas shortages. Is it as bad as the news makes it seem. Are more people riding bicycles to get around? How's business at the local bikes shops in the Atlanta area?

  1. Hey Fritz, Byron from Atlanta here. I ride daily and actually didn't realize there was a gas shortage until I saw it on the news recently.

We've had unusually high interest in programs and classes at the Atlanta Bike Campaign, but I think that's been all summer and not directly because of the past week. I've gotten several calls for quotes by local media, so there's at least more interest all around.

We're conducting some ridership counts this week and might have more definative numbers after that. I would say that there are fewer cars along my usual commute route, so with the nice weather arriving it's been a great week for bike commuting so far!

  2. Hey Fritz, I've been counting cyclists whenever I'm out on the bike and numbers have roughly doubled this past week. Of course, September is usually one of the better months to ride and numbers have been rising steadily for the 18-20 months I've been counting, but yes, gas shortages are getting people's attention.

I recently posted about how my corner gas station is back to normal (and noticed no SUVs in line), but there were 43 cyclists on my way home versus a typical 20 or so.
