Bicycle repair videos

Which reminds me: I need to change the chain on my road bike. I have 1500 miles on my current chain (10 speed) and it's already stretched. At $50 a pop, those 10 speed chains are not cheap.

  1. Who are you, Thor Hushvod? :)

I would not consider changing a chain before 10,000 miles. On my main bike I still run the OEM chain, and it has more than that. My commuter bike has been running the same chain since 1995. And yes, I clean them and wax them as needed.

  2. It's a 10 speed chain (105 group) and it's already stretched. Shifting has become uneven.

My commuter bikes with fat chains -- yeah, I don't know how many thousands of miles are on those, but this is on the finicky road bike. The lifespan of the chain is disappointing.

  3. Makes me love my Rohloff and 8 speed chain even more :)

  4. ...the good news is: we've made our new 10 speed chains lighter, thinner & faster shifting...

...oh ya, btw, they now cost a lot more & don't last nearly as long...

...the ultimate in exponentially planned obsolescence...
