Bill Nye rides a bicycle

I just learned that Bill Nye (aka "The Science Guy") hosts the show "Stuff Happens" on something called the the Planet Green Channel. Nye apparently talked about that study from a couple of years ago claiming that cycling might do more harm to the environment than driving does.

I couldn't find the episode online, but Rogers provides some details at his blog. In the meantime, I dug up this old episode of The Science Guy in which Nye rides a bicycle to illustrate distances between the planets.

  1. Great excuse for him to ride during work!

  2. But why did he set up the planets on the wrong side of the road?

  3. Cool video! Thanks for sharing. I knew that Bill Nye was a cyclist, because I enjoy watching "Living with Ed," a show about Ed Begley, Jr. and his neighbors (one of whom is Mr. Nye) and their attempts to live a responsible lifestyle. Ed Begley is also an avid cyclist. His cycling seems to be more utilitarian than recreational, from what I've seen on the show.

  4. ...bill "breaking away" nye...& here i thought he was just "the science guy"...

...this vid helps to point out carl sagan's favorite line..."space...is so vast"...

...& ya, regarding that "longevity" theory...while the healthy activity of cycling may increase one's lifespan, subsequently offering the potential of increasing one's utilization of natural resources, i would in general surmise that "most" real cyclist's become aware of their place & footprint on this planet...
...hopefully most of us will somehow act & contribute rather than just consume...
